Starting out in web design, I needed a website to introduce my offerings and my work. Having a professional website would increase my credibility as a web designer when reaching out with a cold call or email as well as give potential clients examples of my work.

Why?

I wanted to create a clear identity for my brand. Developing a consistent color palette, consistent icons, and typography throughout the site keeps it cohesive.

Brand Identity

I needed my services to be front and center and created different packages for users to peruse to see that we can customize services to fit their needs.

Services

Most entrepreneurs have some sort of freebie to create an email list, which converts into clients, so I had to come up with some sort of freebie to invite people to sign up.

Freebie

Being online, you can be anyone. I wanted people to see me and that I am real, to develop trust and also to keep a more down to Earth feeling working with me.

Testing Early

Getting more eyes on the website as your building it seems like a better solution to make sure you are developing the right tone for your site. This is part of what would be nice in the testing phase of UX.

Keep it Simple

I spent a lot of time developing freebies and integrating automatic emails, all of which I do not use, because I don't have enough traffic. If I were to advise anyone starting out, I would say, stick to the basics. The rest can come later as you grow.

Flexibility

I developed my color palette, but adjusted colors as I worked to fit the website better. I think sticking to the color palette would have been to my detriment and adjust hues helped me find the right tone in the end.

Project Summary

Thank you!

This was a really fun project. Since it was tied to me, I had much more trouble establishing the visual identity where with other sites, I did not waver as much. Because of this and my lack of testing, I ended up not creating the right website, and had to adjust it later on down the line. I learned a lot as I worked, though, and developed better graphic and layout skills.
